On a few occasions I have done some work on my rulesets while the actual Twine is offline. It is very difficult to see if these rulesets are saving when I press the button I sometimes get a message saying it will update in 120 minutes and sometimes I don't. And I have lost rules in these situations. Can we get the ability to save a ruleset in the account even if the Twine is offline (if it doesn't already function that way)?

It would be nice to have the ability to set a blink rhythm for the LED.

For example. You can set the duration by milliseconds, then enter something like 10100010
If duration is 5ms, then the LED would blink L
on for 5ms
off for 5ms
on for 5ms
off for 15ms
on for 1ms.
(Not adding a 0 at the end would leave the LED on.)

This could adapt to TWINE 2 where perhaps there would be a multi-color LED, so G0R0B could be used

Command strips wouldn't stick to Twine's outer jacket, and I want to be able to change the batteries easily. But the strap shorted the battery terminal solder points, so I've had to jury-rig some insulation there.

I get that this is a very DIY product, but as we find more more and better uses for it it'll get taken up by folks who will need a little more handholding. So a bracket that grips the sheath, or even just some protection for the back of the board, would be nice.

I think that an advanced feature that could possibly be created is to have the action of a rule be able to add/delete/modify another rule or rules. This allows TWINE to alter its own behaviour depending on what happens to it. A sort of configurable finite state machine. Each rule would need to be identifiable and access to the trigger and action allowed. This means that a sensor reading can cause different things to happen at different times even though the value of the sensor is the same.

You could even have an array of TWINEs and allow them to alter each other's rules (ala twineID:ruleID:trigger|action). This is obviously for advanced users but I'm sure there is someone out there who would be able to tease some interesting emergent behaviours out of such a network which would be cool to see. I can see a room full of TWINEs with all their LEDs forming some weird pattern like Conway's game of life animations.

Practical uses would, of course, follow later.

Could be in seconds, minutes, hours, etc based on UI. User can check the timer online in web format. MAYBE the LED flashes with countdown clock, maybe it doesn't to save power. Maybe it's a toggled config variable ...

EXAMPLE:

0. User configures TWINE to reminder/timer mode. Enters in seconds/minutes/hours to countdown.
1. User flips TWINE to front to start timer. Email/SMS/etc is sent to confirm the countdown has begun. Web interface will show the countdown.
2. Timer begins and will SMS/email/etc user when timer is expired ...
3. If user flips TWINE over before timer is done, timer is paused.
4. If timer expires, SMS/email/etc is sent.
5. If user shakes the TWINE, it's reset?

This is just off the top of my head, but perhaps it can be made better or more simple.

Thanks for listening.

-sj/C90 at Artisan's Asylum in Somerville, MA

Another wi-fi device on the market had a problem when there was a power failure and the device continued to poll the router trying to connect and eventually depleted its battery, preventing it from connecting after power was restored. Have the twine designers thought about this?

I suggest that in the case of longer than expected delays in establishing a connection, twine should switch to making less frequent attempts to connect, perhaps in a progressive fashion. This mode would be suspended when a connection was reestablished, or by flipping twine over.

I feel like it may be handy to have a rule condition be a specific orientation, rather than a change of orientation. This would allow you to enable/disable the rule by flipping Twine over.

For example, while I'm at home I can have the top up (rules disabled), and then flip it over when I leave to enable the rules. This should avoid any extraneous alerts if I accidentally trigger it myself.

It seems like loading the rule on the device is cumbersome and unnecessary, when this could be done entirely in the cloud. If you are not near the Twine and want to create a new rule, this would allow it to be implemented instantly.

So, I'm not certain if there's already out-of-the-box support for this, but I was wondering if Twine is capable of interfacing with multiple external sensors at once. I.e., say I'd like to connect the Breakout Board and Moisture Sensor to the same Twine. Is that currently feasible, or (if not) does Supermechanical have any plans for some sort of 'Sensor Hub'?
