I took it to work today (now that the vibration sensor is functional), which is where I planned to use it most of the time.

I went to set it up for a new network (to be able to use it at my job-site); which after some hair pulling seemed to succeed. I got a message about needing a new firmware (which I had updated 2-3 days ago); and then it went dead.

I've pulled the batteries (which were perfectly good) several times, brought the Twine back home and put new batteries in it... nothing. It's just a green doorstop right now.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone,

I've had my Twine setup for some time now, and have had it in a couple of roles so far (both involving the breakout board); monitoring a current sensor or float switch on my sump pump, and as an Internet-enabled doorbell. In both cases the switch is normally open, and is closed upon activation (sump pump runs and draws power, sump bucket water level triggers float switch, someone presses the doorbell). I've been using a pull-up resistor between the power and input lines on the breakout board, as per one of the first Twine blog posts (pre-shipping I think, so a while ago) about setting up a photoresistor. I'm wondering if the pull-up is necessary however, given the Twine breakout seems to have a 4.7K resistor built in, and none of the recent blog posts (e.g. about setting up an Easy button) mention the need for a pull-up resistor. Was this some kind of design change on the Twine, and am I safe using my Twine without the pull-up?

Thanks!

Martin.

Hell if I know... it's entirely non-verbose, as in quiet, as in "I'd rather not say", as in "mind your own damn business!"

"Flip me over, I'll do it faster - I'll give you no indication what I am doing or whether or not I am actually making every conceivable effort to do it faster. Perhaps I'm just sitting here next to the old scratched up Serious Sam CD you use as a coaster. You could use me as a coaster, perhaps I'll message you when your beer is too warm. You'll never get the message though, because that doesn't really work. Did I mention you should update me? Hey flip me over, wait, no flip me back. I'm sorry, do you want me to go faster or slower? I bet you would love to have an ABOUT link to click to see which firmware I was on. Sucks to be you."

"I'm sensing frustration, which is odd, because I'm suppose to sense vibration - maybe you put my batteries in backwards."

"Knock, knock?"

"Aren't you gonna say who's there? Never mind. Remember that time you plugged me into a moisture sensor and sat me near your sump and waited for me to send you an email when the water level was high? Yeah, those were good times. Wait, what do you mean you never got the email? You didn't get the text either? Dammit, why the hell do I even bother trying to notify you then? Don't be bitter, it's not my fault, I need new firmware, flip me over."

"Whoa, is that a Raspberry Pi? Don't bring that in here, that's not fair. How can I compete with that, I mean, sure it cost less, does more and actually works, but I sense things. Like look, it's 75F in here right now - your fancy little trinket can't do that. Bah, I'm not impressed, just wait till I get my new firmware, then I'll show you something."

"Flip me over."

Is it possible to let my twine send / store / publish / save / whatever the temperature or the orientation every "X" timeframe? I really dont know how this could be programmed but for example id like a temperature-curve which data is stored in a spreadsheet. Are there web-based-solutions that can be feeded by twines sensor-output?

Hi,

i am not happy with my Twine becuase it is too slow and to dumb (sorry for that).

1.) Too slow:

- Is there a way to set it permanently to fast?

- Is there a way to set it to slow but to trigger a report via wlan instantly if something is happening? I want to use Twine as an alarm sensor. If vibration >68 mg (e. g. someone is opening my locker ) then send me an e-mail. At the moment a short vibration is not reported because the report intervall is too slow and a short vibration wich begins after the last report and stops before the next report is not recognized.

2.) Too dumb:

If a short trigger is needed you will not get it reported, because of the long report intervalls. Is there a way that an event is stored and reported by the next report? E.g.

Now: Report 1 (no vibration) ==> vibration starts ==> virbration stops ==> Report 2 (no vibration)

I need: Report 1 (no vibration) ==> vibration starts ==> virbration stops ==> Report 2 (vibration! because it was stored and send with the next slow report)

I hope you understand what I mean )

Using the cloud shield, I have encountered a problem I haven't seen before with any of the other sensors. It only works the first time after the rule is saved. It doesn't seem to be the cloud shield itself , my Twine, or my connection, as my Twine webpage registers the Cloud Shield trigger. It is just that the text message I want it to send only gets sent on the first trigger after the rules are saved. Then never again until the rules are saved again. I have tried this numerous times and it is quite repeatable. I deleted all other rules except the Cloud Shield trigger sending a text message - that didn't help. From here, it looks like a bug in the server software!
